There’s a triple-pronged defence of a maligned anti-hero on this week’s Popcorn Muncher Podcast, hosted by Patrick Wilson, with Luke Stevenson and Tom Beasley – editor of The Popcorn Muncher.

The hero in question, of course, is the title character of Venom, which marks the start of Sony’s questionable notion of a Spider-Man universe without the webslinger. Tom Hardy plays journalist Eddie Brock and the head-munching symbiote with whom he ultimately shares a body. It’s a movie that has been savaged by critics, but impressed all three of us in surprising and compelling ways. We also have a chat about the lovable romance Anchor and Hope, which traps a couple in turmoil on a houseboat.

We’re talking trailers for most of the news section, discussing our first looks at Taron Egerton as Elton John in musical Rocketman and Christian Bale as Dick Cheney in Vice. We also chat about the new live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch that’s reportedly in the works over at Disney. In the quiz, Luke delves into the unknown once again for a loosely connected journey through IMDb.
