There are two very different depictions of modern womanhood on this week’s Popcorn Muncher Podcast, hosted by Luke Stevenson with Tom Beasley – editor of The Popcorn Muncher.

On the review agenda this week is a selection of different movies, including Studio Ponoc’s debut anime Mary and the Witch’s Flower and horror sequel Strangers: Prey at Night. There’s also Jason Reitman‘s bracing depiction of motherhood in Tully, which gives Charlize Theron a tremendous leading role, and the divisive Amy Schumer romcom I Feel Pretty, which has sparked a detailed and fiery discussion about body-shaming and beauty standards.

In the news section, we discuss new trailers for Ant-Man and the Wasp and The Predator, as well as a brief round-up of the other stories since the last podcast. Then, in a slightly different final segment, we chat about our favourite movie mothers and Tom goes to bat for Stifler’s Mom as a misunderstood intellectual.
