It’s Halloween on this week’s Popcorn Muncher Podcast, hosted by Luke Stevenson and Tom Beasley – editor of The Popcorn Muncher. Despite the spooky time of year, it’s actually quite hard to see which of the week’s films are supposed to be scarier.
Tom has seen a tonne of films, as per usual, so it’s a busy reviews section. He talks us through Armando Iannucci‘s new satirical Soviet comedy The Death of Stalin and the rather different My Little Pony: The Movie. Both of us, however, are able to discuss the two scariest films of Halloween week – lame-brained Gerard Butler disaster movie Geostorm and incredibly entertaining Blumhouse slasher Happy Death Day.
In the news section, we discuss the not all that surprising casting rumour suggesting Ben Mendelsohn will play the villain in Captain Marvel and the incredibly dull first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Phantom Thread, which will definitely win Daniel Day-Lewis his fourth Oscar. Then, we find time to discuss the fact Michael Bay is involved in making a Dora the Explorer movie. Bizarre, but true.
As our grand finale, we take inspiration from Geostorm in order to reveal our top five apocalypse/end of the world/dystopia movies. Nothing in there is as terrifying as a yelling Gerard Butler.
